Cosmetic Dentistry- Veneers
Veneers
Veneers are made from porcelain, so it
is a very thin, but yet tough material
that is durable and has a very long
lifespan. They are customized by the:
fit, size, shape, and color by a
professional dental laboratory
Purpose of
Veneers
- Veneers can redesign and reshape your
teeth and ultimately bring your smile
back to life
- They are often seen as a great
alternative to crowns when treating a
variety of oral conditions
Reasons
for Veneers
- To create a symmetrical beautiful
white smile
- Crooked or bent teeth
- Teeth in wrong places
- Discolored/stained teeth
- Gum line and size of teeth are not
uniform
- Unwanted gaps or spaces in teeth
- Various chipped teeth
The
process of Veneers from start to finish
Getting Veneers will take an average of
two to three visits. Overall the process
is painless and will typically require
little to no anesthesia (Novocain)
during this procedure. The teeth then
are buffed lightly which will allow the
thickness of the veneer to be custom
fitted. Next an impression (mold) of the
teeth is taken for both the upper and
lower teeth. To end the first visit you
and your dentist will pick out a shade
that you think is appropriate or
desired.
During the second visit your teeth will
be cleansed with special liquids in
order to achieve a durable bond. Lastly
bonding cement is carefully placed
between each tooth and its veneer.
Following the cement, a special light is
then used to harden/set the bond.
After all is said and done, you will
post procedure instructions. In a sense
they are basic maintenance directions.
Like always, proper oral hygiene
(brushing, flossing, correct diet, and
regular dental visits) will aid in the
life of your new Veneers.
